A senior officer that leaped to the help of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knife attacker was granted the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a road collision in that location in July 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Officer knifed," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera video released by the force depicted Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide something on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered two lacerations to his throat and further wounds to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.
Officials reported Sgt Foster employed his hands to stop his partner's bleeding before paramedics arrived.
This most recent honor comes subsequent to the trio of policemen received organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional officer association in early 2024.
They additionally received a Regional Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The efforts of the entire team eventually rescued themselves and meant no civilians endured any wounds."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, according to authorities.
