As per a new survey, around one in five people aged 25-34 in the UK are employing smart technology to plan their holidays.

Age-Based Divide in Technology Adoption

While conventional pre-arranged vacations are still the most common selection, data shows that 18% of 25- to 34-year-olds use AI tools like ChatGPT for holiday suggestions.

In contrast, under 3% of older adults mention AI as a resource for vacation planning.

Post-Covid Travel Recovery

Data shared at a recently held travel industry convention indicated that the proportion of Britons going on a holiday in the past year has practically returned to pre-pandemic numbers.

Approximately 87% of respondents surveyed went on a vacation in the UK or overseas recently.

A growing proportion of people stated a holiday as the most important discretionary spend, valued more than recreation, devices, and other leisure activities, particularly during economic uncertainty.

AI Integration Grows

A survey carried out in the summer found that significantly more respondents are using AI for travel arrangements relative to a year ago.

Now, eight percent of those surveyed stated they depend on AI for ideas, up from four percent in 2024.

Research also highlighted that young adults were the top group to view a vacation as "important for their wellbeing".

A high ninety percent of these individuals held this opinion, compared with the 80% overall average.

Young tourists were also double the chance to pick a brand, hotel, or destination based on its sustainability efforts.

Roughly twenty percent of young adults prioritized environmental factors, versus one in ten across all age groups.

Several industry figures shared doubt about these claims.

Everyone aims to be more sustainable – however if it’s more expensive, they usually think twice about it.

Nevertheless, the same executive commented that millennial tourists "appear to be a lot more aware and healthier living than when I was young".

Discussion About Tourism in Spain

New initiatives by officials in Spain to change the demographic of travellers have led to debate.

The country is hoping to promote extended visits and more relaxed tourism through a fresh advertising campaign.

The aim is changing from traditional beach holidays.

When you boil down their statements, we want a different type of visitor – they basically want affluent travellers.

The expert added that when a condition for booking a trip is being rich, that is "absolutely disgraceful".

Calls for Oversight in Travel Industry

The challenges with overcrowding in Spanish destinations and elsewhere were attributed to "unregulated accommodations" rather than established brands.

There were appeals for authorities to clamp down on examples where Airbnb owners operate without a required authorization, health and safety certificate, or proper tax records.

If owners are identified to lack the required permits and tax records, you get fined. If you don’t do that results in jail time. All the unlicensed properties will be eliminated rapidly.

The takeaway was clear: Owners should be accountable, become licensed, and get it done.
