Chinese Government Condemns United States of ‘Hypocritical Policies’ Over Tariff Threat

Trump’s most recent warning to enforce an extra 100% tariff on products from China has been labeled a “typical example” of United States’ contradictory behavior, according to the Beijing administration.

A official from China’s Commerce Ministry also stated that the nation could enact its own unrevealed “countermeasures” if the American leader carries out his threat, noting that the country was “not afraid” of a possible trade war.

This past Friday, Donald Trump hit back at the Chinese government’s action to tighten its regulations for overseas sales of rare earths, charging China of “becoming very hostile” and attempting to hold the international market “hostage”.

Additionally, he vowed to withdraw from a scheduled summit with Chinese leader Xi, which was set for a conference in South Korea later this month.

The former president’s remarks on that day shook stock exchanges, with the S&P 500 share index closing down over two and a half percent, marking its largest decline since last spring.

These statements reignited apprehensions of a trade conflict between the two economic giants.

“The nation’s view” on a tariff war has consistently been unchanging: we wish to avoid one, but we are not afraid of one.”

Last week, the Chinese government announced it was reinforcing foreign shipment restrictions on key elements and additional substances critical for cutting-edge industry.
