Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Squad Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise selection.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international side following scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has played 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

There have been indications of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia search for a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
