The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the upcoming animated film.
Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the far corners of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
Much like the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who seemingly utilizes powers related to metal. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will welcome back of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo confirmed three new games already confirmed for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
