Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
